Content
The course has been structured by a professional educator with PhD studies in education and 20+ years of teaching experience.
The course draws heavily from the Logic of English program.
The course focuses on identification and pronunciation of English sounds (phonemes), and their corresponding phonograms (groups of letters).
You will learn the repertoire of English sounds.
You will learn the correct position of the different elements of the phonetic apparatus (e.g. tongue) to make all English sounds.
You will more easily understand English speech (in conversation, in podcasts, in movies), as well as significantly improve your pronunciation of English sounds.
You will participate in exercises and games that will encourage you to practice the sounds. We will practice specific phrases and dialogues so that you can insert your new knowledge of sounds into your regular speech.
How Long is the Course?
The length of the course will depend on your personal language goals and your personal progress. You can decide for it to be 2 months long, or 2 years long. The course grows progressively sophisticated (e.g. learning Greek and Latin roots in the higher stages). However, you will learn the basic sound components of the English language at the outset. You may choose to stop your participation in our classes at any point in time. For each month of class you take, you gain understanding and practice that is yours to keep.
The speed at which you progress will depend on various factors. One factor is your willingness to participate in class repeating the sounds. Another factor is your completion of the homework assigned (games and exercises). Another factor is how your psyche works for or against this new learning, and its flexibility/rigidity in pronunciation patterns. We will provide support to overcome psychological resistance to change in speech patterns.
